AZ Central – Priciest Valley Homes for week of 07-23-2007

Jul. 24, 2007 08:44 AM A mortgage broker, a CEO, a former Phoenix Coyote, a former CEO of Scottsdale Healthcare and a vice president of an international securities company are among the buyers and sellers in this week’s priciest home sales.

$3,175,000 Phillip A. Sollomi Jr. and Carolyn L. Sollomi, as trustees of the PAS-CLS Revocable Trust, purchased a 7,198-square-foot main home with 830-square-foot guest house and 400-square-foot pool originally built in 2000 at Royal Palm Estates in Phoenix. The main house has four bedrooms and garage space for five cars. Phillip Sollomi is a mortgage broker with Mortgages Ltd. in Phoenix. The home was sold by John H. Weber, president and CEO of Remy International Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of starters and alternators, diesel engines, locomotive products and hybrid power technology.

$2,850,000 Richard Rogel paid cash for a 6,400-square-foot home with 400-square-foot freeform pebbletec pool with boulder waterfall, spa and fire pit overlooking the Pinnacle Golf Course in Scottsdale. It was originally built in 2001. The house has four bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms, rear projection and THX surround sound theatres, gourmet kitchen with two-way ledge stone fireplace, workout room, music room and guest quarters with full kitchen. The home was sold by Patricia Roglin of Peoria.  

$2,646,000 Scott Leventhal and his wife, Heather, of Scottsdale bought this 5,449-square-foot home with 450-square-foot pool originally built in 2006 at DC Ranch in Scottsdale on the east side of the Country Club at DC Ranch. The home was sold by Tyson S. Nash and his wife, Kathleen, of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Nash, a professional ice hockey left winger, was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Phoenix Coyotes for Mikael Tellqvist and a fourth-round draft pick in November. Nash currently is on the roster of the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

$2,500,000David E. Lawson and his wife, Ellen, of Scottsdale purchased this 5,302square-foot home with 550-square-foot pool originally built in 1989 in Paradise Valley west of the Gainey Ranch Golf Club. The home was sold by Max Poll and Judith R. Poll, as trustees of the Max Poll and Judith R. Poll Trust. Max Poll retired last year after 13 years as president and CEO of Scottsdale Healthcare.

$2,485,000 John W. Catalfio and his wife, Donna, of Phoenix purchased a 2,518-square-foot home with 360-square-foot pool originally built in 1989 at Mary Katherine Estates in Scottsdale west of the Ancala Country Club. John Catalfio is vice president, investments/branch manager of Euro Pacific Capital, a broker/dealer specializing in international securities. The home was sold by Leslie T. Kutasi and Michelle G. Kutasi, as trustees of the Leslie T. Kutasi and Michelle G. Kutasi Family Trust. Researched by John McLean and the Information Market. 

AZ Republic – Fountain Park is being updated

 FOUNTAIN HILLS – The town’s iconic Fountain Park is undergoing a major face lift this summer.Crews began installing new irrigation late last month on the 37-year-old park, which at 560 feet tall boasts the world’s tallest fountain.

Those who frequent the park need not worry.

It will remain open while the irrigation system is installed in three month-long phases. Construction will be fenced in to remove any potential hazards.“It will definitely help improve the overall appearance,” said Town Recreation Supervisor Bryan Hughes.

He said the new system will be automated and more effective in its water distribution.

Town Manager Tim Pickering said it is a necessity.

“Every summer, our grass has been turning brown,” he said.

Other enhancements include the addition of sidewalk on the western edge of the park’s lake, disk golf tee pads and new landscaping.

Fountain Hills awarded Valley Rain Construction a contract for the project in June, and later set the maximum price at $1.36 million.The park, near Saguaro and El Lago boulevards, has seen some major adjustments in recent years. Last year, builders added a splash facility with sprayers that spout water from the ground.
